Student Housing Project
Mixed use scheme of off-campus student housing and refurbished offices
O'Neill Associates worked with developers S Harrison to gain planning consent from York City Council for this mixed use scheme involving the conversion of offices formerly occupied by York Press to provide new student accommodation.
A number of modern buildings were demolished and a former historic warehouse, which has been identified as a ‘Building of Merit’ in York’s Central Historic Core Conservation Area Appraisal, was converted in order to provide apartments for 648 students.
An adjacent vacant building known as 'The Poad's Building' also identified as a ‘Building of Merit’ underwent refurbishment and extension as part of the scheme in order to provide new office space for York Press.
O'Neill Associates are pleased to have been part of a project which represented a positive re-use of under-utilised brownfield land and re-purpose of valued building, conserving and enhancing a sensitive site close to a number of listed buildings.
