Contemporary 120-bed Moxy hotel in city centre
O’Neill Associates obtained full planning permission for a 5-storey, 120-bed hotel for Marriott’s lifestyle brand Moxy at The Stonebow in York. The application related to a tightly constrained site between a Grade II* listed public house and high quality modern offices, and close to a number of historic buildings that are within York’s Central Historic Core Conservation Area, as well as the recent Hungate residential development.
The Practice provided planning advice and assistance to progress the scheme from initial proposals to approval. This involved extensive consultation with Council Officers, Historic England and the York Conservation Area Advisory Panel, and addressing a range of issues including design, impact on heritage assets and neighbouring buildings and public realm improvements.
The hotel opened in July 2019 and delivers an attractive contemporary solution to a sensitive and challenging site which integrates with the mixed modern and historical context and makes a positive modern contribution to this part of the Conservation Area.
